Gordon Lynch
1921 - 2010 - (Miramichi NB) - Gordon William Lynch, husband of the late Shirley (Gilliss) Lynch of 10 Suncrest Ave, Miramichi, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Monday morning, September 27, 2010 at the age of 89. Born February 1, 1921 in Craigville NB, he was the eldest son of Michael and Susan (Ahern) Lynch. In his youth, Gordon worked in the woods. He then served with the North Shore Regiment during World War II. Following the war, Gordon was employed for a short time as a fireman on the CN railway. He then completed his studies and exams for the plumbing trade. Gordon found employment as a plumber with the Department of National Defence at CFB Chatham. After several years, he became Foreman of Plumbing and Heating and worked in this position until his retirement in 1985. Gordon retired at age 64 and enjoyed many years of travel and volunteer work during his retirement. Gordon attended St Michael's Basilica in Miramichi. He served as both Member and President of St Michael's Parish Council, as well as being a senior altar server and Minister of Communion. He also assisted with logistics for the St Michael's Catechetical Program. Gordon served for many years on the St Michael's Cemetery Committee and as a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society. He has been a 4th Degree Member of Council 1219 Knights of Columbus as well as being a Past Grand Knight. He served on the Chatham Rink Commission, and the Hotel Dieu Hospital and Mount St Joseph Advisory Committees. He was a member of Branch # 3 of the Royal Canadian Legion, the NB Right to Life Association, and the Friendly Neighbour Seniors Club (Nelson). Gordon was honored by the Diocese of Saint John as a recipient of the Bishop Dollard Medal. He was recognized by the Rotary Club of Chatham as the 1992 recipient of their Vocational Service Award. Gordon and his late wife Shirley were married for 59 years when Shirley passed away in 2009. Gordon will be sadly missed by his children Don Lynch of St Margarets, Pauline Lynch of Rothesay, Patricia (Paul) Broemeling of Nerepis, and Lee (Debbie) Lynch of Edmonton AB; his sisters Olive (Vince) McKenzie, Marie Rogers, Dorothy (Roy) Hanley, Doreen Lynch (Wendell Allison) and Frances (Gary) Mahoney, and by his brother Louis (Doris) Lynch all of Miramichi; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Liz) Lynch, Agnes Lynch, Lenore Masterson and Marjorie Gilliss of Miramichi, Alice Lynch of Baie-Ste-Anne, and Geraldine Gilliss of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Stephane Lynch, Colin Lynch, Kyle Lynch, Ryan Lynch, Rebekah Lynch, Christopher Broemeling, Colin Broemeling and Tara Broemeling; seven great grandchildren, Felix, Alexandre, Marianne, Tatyana and Nathaniel Lynch, Antoine Martel and Mia Broemeling-Martel; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his sisters Isabel and her husband Clarence O'Toole, Lina and her husband Clayton Doyle; by his brothers Aloysius, George and his wife Helen (McCormack), Leonard, Laurence, Raymond and his first wife Sarah (Estey); by his brother-in-law Art Rogers; by his granddaughter Tammy Lynn Broemeling.
Gordon is resting at Maher's Funeral Home, 35 University Ave, Miramichi NB with visitation on Saturday from 7 PM to 9 PM, and Sunday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM. Vigil prayers will take place Sunday afternoon at 1:50 PM. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, October 4 at 11 AM at St Michael's Basilica in Miramichi with Fr. John Fraser as celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Gordon's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the St Michael's Lifting The Stone Project, or to the charity of one's choice.
