MERRITT, AUDREY FRANCES - The death of Audrey Merritt, widow of Willard F Merritt, formerly of Saint John, occurred on October 1, 2010, in Fredericton, where she had been living with her daughter, Marilyn, for the last two years. Born February 14, 1921, at Long Reach, Kings County, NB, Audrey was the daughter of Moses and Lalage (Vallis) Doney. At the age of five, she moved with her family to the Doney homestead in Codys, NB. After graduating as an RN from Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton, in 1945, Audrey had a long and fulfilling career as a nurse, first working in rural NB, then at the Saint John General Hospital and finally at Loch Lomond Villa from which she retired in 1977.
Audrey is survived by her five children: Ann (Robert Perry) of Rothesay, NB; Walter (Jane) of Penticton, BC; J Ian (Cathy) of Manotick, ON; Marilyn (Bruce Gray) of Douglas, NB; and Bruce of London, ON.
In her later years, Audrey took much pleasure in the adventures of her grandchildren: David Perry, ON, Sean Perry, NB; Tyler, Dustin and Shayla Merritt, BC; Caitlin, Jordan and Alison Merritt, ON; and Carri Gray, NB. They will miss her spunk and lively sense of humour.
Audrey is survived by a sister-in-law, Rilla Doney of Sussex and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard, and brothers: Harry, Arthur and Walter Doney.
At Audrey's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Lower Kars, NB, at a later date. The family would appreciate donations made to the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation or the CNIB.
