It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of Donald 'Donnie' Thomas Pottie, 57, of Onoway, Alta., and formerly of Sydney who passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010.
Donnie was a jack of all trades and in his younger days was a cab driver in Sydney which he enjoyed very much. All his clients loved him, especially the elderly who would go for groceries and always requested Donnie. He would make sure their groceries were brought right to their kitchens.
Donnie was a member of the St. Theresa's Men's Club, a church usher and he chaperoned many dances at St. Theresa's Hall.
Donnie's passion was fishing with his father in the Margaree River, a place of solace he found so dear.
When he married and moved to Edmonton, he later became a liaison officer and voice for Families First, an organization that advocated for challenged individuals' rights. There was nothing he would not do to help those in need. He will especially be missed by his physically challenged daughter, Sarah, whom he spent his days with. He was Sarah's' favourite person in the world and his loss will be especially felt by her. He never stopped teaching Sarah new things.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Anne; daughters, Ester, Eden and Sarah; and two sons Aaron and Matthew. He will be sadly missed by his siblings, Faye McIntosh, Dartmouth, Sandra Cormier (Rich), East Bay, Eileen Forrester (Wally), Sydney, Terrance, Ontario, and Jo-Anne Binns, Sydney. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Capt. Joseph Pottie and Eileen Pottie, brother, Joseph Maurice and son, Kelly.
Donnie has generously donated his body to science.
