Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Margaret Helene MacLellan passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Alder Point, the eldest of 21 siblings, she was the daughter of the late George Francis and Genevieve (Devoe) Walker.
Left to mourn her loss are her daughters, Stephanie, Lila (Lorne), Margaret (John), Wanda (Timmy) and Ann (Joey); her sons, John (Garlie), Robert (Cindy) and Gregory. She was adored by 18 grandchildren, Roberta (Chris), Lisa (Trent), Crystal (Jeremy), Robert (Sarah), Corey (Chelsea), Ashley (John), Lorne (Danielle), Lloyd (Holly), Jennifer, James (Rachael), Rina (Raymond), Jason (Patsy), Amanda (Chris), Jessica, Tyler, Richard, Joseph and Anthony; and 18 great-grandchildren, Brock, Josh, Breanna, Braden, Brooke, Ryleigh, Seth, Sean, Gabrielle, Isiah, Jordan, Jaden, Dominic, Brianna, Jayla and Aiden. Also surviving are her 16 brothers and sisters, Gilbert (Gloria), Anne (Bob), Sister Joan, Vince (Kay), Leonard (Jean), Betty (Brad), Norma (Lou), Kenny (Heidi), Carol (Johnny), Sheldon, Gordie (Barbara), Donnie (Sandy), Vicki (Jimmy), Gerard (Susan), Pius (Deb) and Greg (Joanne); her aunt, Josephine and uncle, Johnny Walker and more than 100 nieces and nephews and many cousins. She will also be deeply mourned by her friend and companion of many years, James Simms, Florence, and his family, Ricky, Laurie, James and Brian and their children, Stacy, Krista, Rick Jr., Shane, Megan, David, Erin, Karen, Jody and Kerri and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John A. MacLellan, her brothers, Richard, James, Adrian, two sisters in infancy, her nephew, Bruce Walker and other family members, Tina (LeBlanc) MacLellan, Dale Vickers, Wilfred Pourier, Dougie MacLean and Dale Simms.
Helen was a longtime member of the Bras d'Or Pensioners Club, working tirelessly at their many functions, enjoying bingo and dancing the night away with her James. She was a wonderful mother, envied by her children's friends for her love, guidance and hospitality. She gave of herself to her younger brothers and sisters all of their lives and this was deeply appreciated.
Visitation Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
