
Marilyn Conklin
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Isabell Conklin , age 70, on Oct. 16, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Tyndal Road, Cumb. Co., N.S., she was the daughter of the late Donald and Merna (Read) Fraser. Marilyn worked for various companies when living in Ontario and upon returning to Nova Scotia was employeed with Waldale, Brookdale Elementary School, K Mart and for approximately 13 years with Sifto Canada Inc. Marilyn was a member of Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church and over the years served on various Council Committees. She was a Life Member of United Church Women and worked on many of their Committees, as well, she was involved with Chignecto Presbyterial where she was co-chair of Area 4 and was also co-chair of the Program Committee at Maritime Conference level. Marilyn very much enjoyed playing dominoes and also attending the Friends Unlimited Group. She was part of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Auxiliary where she served as President, Membership Convenor, and on Highland Fling Committees. She was also a Past Chair of Northern Region. She really enjoyed being part of her Stitch and Bitch Group and attending the Red Hat gatherings. She worked for many years with the Christmas For Kids Program. Marilyn loved all of her volunteer work, it was not work to her, it was an honor for her to serve. Marilyn by definition was a loving, thoughtful, selfless person who enjoyed life to the fullest each and every day. She inspired the lives that she touched by seeing the very best in people. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Allan Conklin, sons: Aaron (Terri) Conklin, Lorne, N.S., Stephen (Frances Cooper) Conklin of Hopewell, N.S. and daughter Tracy (James) Gauthier of Fredericton, N.B. Grandchildren: Laura and Katelynn Conklin of Halifax, N.S., Taylor Gauthier of Fredericton, N.B., Step Grandson Shane Smith, Halifax, N.S. and chosen Grandson Jake Robinson, Amherst, N.S. Sisters: Elizabeth (late Cecil) Moore, Oxley Beach, N.S., Jean (Roderick) Miller, Brookdale, N.S. and twin sister Carolyn (Victor) MacLeod of Jackson's Point, N.S. Brothers: Donald (Gloria) Fraser, Hamilton, Ont., Delbert (Gloria) Fraser, and Lloyd (Donna Nichols) Fraser both of Amherst, N.S. Sisters-in-law: Lois (Bill) Johnston, Bloomfield, Ont., Marion (John) Walt, Consecon, Ont. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Hugh Fraser and sister-in-law Jean (Harold) Hartt. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, with visitation taking place October 18, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 pm. The funeral will be held on October 19, 2010 from Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church at 1::30 pm, with a reception to follow in Burgess Hall. Burial in Fenwick Cemetery. Family flowers only.
