ANDERSON - Our hearts are saddened by the loss of Lillian (Terri) Anderson (nee Boyle, nee Newton), an exceptional lady who passed away on October 13, 2010 at age 85. Lillian Alberta Boyle was born in Moose Jaw, SK on Jan 20, 1925. She was a fun loving, energetic, brilliantly talented woman who excelled in athletics, music and art. She had a spectacular singing voice and a natural artistic skill for sketching and painting. Lillian worked as the head mechanic on the WWII fighter planes, where she adopted the nickname 'Terri'. In 1944, Terri married Glen E. Newton. They made their home in Swift Current, SK where they raised their five children. The Newton family spent many happy summers at their Lac Pelletier cottage. Strong and resourceful, Terri steadfastly survived the loss of her husband, Glen Newton, who passed away in 1969 at age 48 and her daughter, Nancy Beswick, deceased in 1975 at age 23. Terri pursued a career as the Personal Services Director at the Palliser Hospital and her compassionate spirit is often remembered to this day. Terri's great athletic accomplishments included water skiing, championship fastball, golf and curling (she retired from curling at age 80!). She was honoured by being inducted into the Swift Current Sports Hall of Fame. Terri served on Provincial and Canadian Ladies Curling Executives, having the honour of attending world curling championships as a Canadian delegate and curling competitively in provincial playdowns. She was an active member of Elmwood and Qualicum Beach Golf Clubs. Terri contributed tirelessly to local service clubs, including Lions Ladies, Beta Sigma Phi, Legion, CNIB and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She served as an elected official for the City of Swift Current. In recognition of her lifetime of outstanding contributions, Terri was awarded 'Citizen of the Year', a very great honour. In 1984, Terri married Gordon Anderson and shared 26 wonderful years together, travelling the world and retiring to Qualicum Beach, BC, where they resided for 18 years. They enjoyed curling, golfing, camping and volunteering together. Terri's life has been a great blessing to her husband, Gordon, her children; Larry (Deb) Newton, Donna (Murray) Caplan, Carol Newton, Glenda Newton-Palmer, stepchildren; David (Melinda) Anderson, Keith Anderson, grandchildren; Laurel, Lindsay, Leigh, Dean, Shauna, Wade, Carla, Bryce, Shane, Garrett, Kara, Shantal, Shandra, Shayna, Shayla, great-grandchildren; Haleigh, Jacqueline, Alex, Ayla, her siblings; Bernice Stirton, James (Wilma) Boyle, sister-in-law Leone Newton, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The Heart & Stroke Foundation, PO Box 730, Parksville, BC V9P 2G8 would gratefully receive donations in her honour.
