Grandma passed away peacefully Friday, June 12, 2009, at the age of 82 at Valley View Care Centre, Brandon, Manitoba.
Grandma was born on August 26, 1925 at Black Brook, Alberta to Alexander and Sadie Harrison. Her parents relocated to Boularderie Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where grandma met her husband. Grandma was united in marriage to grandpa (originally from Hungry) on November 27, 1950. They operated a lumber mill and dairy farm in Boularderie and together raised six children on the farm until 1964 when they lost the home to fire.
They decided to venture west to Dauphin (Valley River), Manitoba where grandpa was a heavy duty mechanic and grandma worked at home raising her family. Through several years they relocated to different parts of Western Canada and decided to spend their retirement years back in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Together they enjoyed gardening, camping, watching sports (hockey and curling) and they even went to St. Paul’s, Minneapolis to watch their favourite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays. They also enjoyed watching their grandchildren in their sports and regular visits to grandma’s house.
Grandma passed her free time knitting, crocheting and playing bingo. After grandpa’s passing on March 24, 2005, grandma came back to Brandon, Man., where she enjoyed living at River Heights Terrace for 3 1/2 years before going into Valley View Care Centre.
Besides her parents and her husband, Louis; grandma was also predeceased by a brother, Michael.
She leaves to mourn her passing brothers, Peter and George; sister, Mary; also her six children, Sally and husband, Pat; Louis and wife, Darlene; Marie and husband, Ron; Margaret and husband, Terry; Rose and husband, Brian; James and wife, Janice; also her 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2009, grandma is going home to Cape Breton, where there will be visitation Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. On Friday, June 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joachim Church, Southside Boularderie, which is located just three miles from where they started their lives together and here grandma will be laid to rest at grandpa’s side, together again forever.
