Raymond Lacombe

1928 - 2010 - Passed away surrounded by his family on September 21, 2010, at l'Enfant-Jésus hospital, Quebec City. He was born in Edmundston, N.B. on July 23, 1928, son of the late Felix Lacombe and the late Georgianna Turgeon. Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Marguerite St-Pierre, daughter Michele from Peterborough, Ont., son Jean-Yves (Sylvie Mercier) from Saint-Basile-Le-Grand, QC, and three grandchildren, Marianne, Felix and Guillaume. A graduate of St. Thomas University in Chatham and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, he taught for five years in New Brunswick including four years at Cormier High School in Edmundston. He left his hometown to move to the Quebec North Shore where he held several administrative posts, first as school principal of Our Lady's High School in Seven Islands (Sept-Îles), then as pedagogical director for the Gulf Regional School Board (Commission scolaire régionale du Golf) which served the cities of Sept-Iles, Port Cartier and Schefferville. He completed his stay on the North Shore as director of English and French high schools in Port-Cartier. In 1970 he relocated to Vaudreuil where he was director of schools until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Quebec Association of Retired School Principals (AQDER). Ray Lacombe was a dedicated and caring teacher with great esteem for his pupils, respected, and respectful of his colleagues opinions and suggestions. Patient, gentle and endearing, an eternal soul mate and a loving father... He will be dearly missed. The family extends special thanks to the staff of CLSC Haute-Ville des Rivières as well as to the 2nd floor staff of module 2 at the St. Augustin Elderly Care Centre in Beauport for their very special caring and concern. Our gratitude also goes out to Doctors Yves Metivier, Yvon Roy and Louise Cote of Quebec for their great empathy and availability.
