Murphy, Robert F. - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father Robert (Bob) Murphy of Hebbville, N. S. on October 18, 2010 at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Born September 13, 1932 he was the son of the late J. Frank and Gertrude (Leedham) Murphy of Port Williams. He loved sports and played baseball, softball and hockey for many years in the valley. After moving to the South Shore he took up curling, coached minor hockey for a time and he became an avid golfer and spent many happy early morning hours on the golf course. He worked for Nova Scotia Power Commission for 37 years, beginning as a lineman with N. S. Light and Power in Canning and when he retired he was the Head of Customer Service for the Western Zone in Milton, NS. He was an active volunteer, past president of the Bridgewater Kiwanis Club and involved with Bridgewater Senior Wheels. After retiring from the Power Corp. he was manager at the Bridgewater Golf & Country Club for a few years. Bob was predeceased by his wife Jean (O'Brien) and sister Olive MacKinnon. He is survived by daughters Marlene (Dwight) Backman, Chester Basin, Ronda (Ronnie) DeMont, Chester Basin and Trudy Murphy of Hebbville and brother George, Alberta. He had two grandchildren Heather (Chad) Swinimer of Chester Basin and David (Janelle Knickle) Backman of Lower Branch as well as two great-grandchildren, Cameron & Callie Swinimer, Chester Basin, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeney's Funeral Home in Bridgewater. In accordance with Dad's wishes there was no funeral.
