It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Elaine Arens, nee Marshall, on November 05, 2010.

Joan was born April 12, 1927 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan to Earl A. and Kathryn Marshall.

One of nine children in the family, Joan completed her high school education, as well as her Commercial Diploma at St. Mary's Academy & College in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She met John Eugene (Jack) Arens in Watson Lake, Yukon in early 1952 and they were married December 8th of that year. Seven of their eight children were born in Whitehorse, YT before they moved to Kamloops B.C. As members of Sacred Heart Parish, the family attended Sacred Heart Cathedral, where Joan was active with the CWL as a member for 57 years.

For 25 years Joan enjoyed working at the Irving Clinic, eventually becoming Administrator, a position she held until her retirement in 1988. After retirement, she was able to join Jack in traveling and in expanding their family business.

Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband Jack (July 28, 2003), brothers Ronald, Jerry, Alan, Lyalle, Bob and sister Elva.

She is survived by her eight children: Candis (Barrie) Bell of Chase, Dale Arens, Jackie (Rob) Ulrich, and Tracy Chubb of Kamloops, Colleen (Randy) Arens of Abbotsford, Nadine (Christopher) Saxton of Toronto, Desmond (Susan) Arens of Sorrento and Anna (Danny) Trenholm of Salmon Arm; her 19 grandchildren Natalie (Ken), Jordan (Anna), Kelly, Joel, Bryce, Riley, Lyndsey, Joseph, Jennifer, Matt (Kylie), Kristen (Troy), Justin (Arla), Alexander, Travis, Preston, Darby, Jessica, Haley and Logan; and her two great grandchildren Danica and Rylan Morley. She is also survived by her two sisters, Cecelia "Toots" Smoler of Whitehorse, YT, Shirley Watts of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayers will be recited at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 255 Nicola Street, Kamloops, B.C., on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. Father Derrick Cameron will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
