Gordon Lewis

Born In: Coxheath, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Coxheath, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: November 23rd, 2010

It is with a broken heart that I, Beverly (Andrews) Lewis, of Coxheath, regret to announce the passing of my dear husband, Gordon A. Lewis, 77, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010.
Gordie was born in Pondville, Isle Madame, the youngest child of the late John Thomas (Luce) and Margaret (MacLeod) Lewis.
Gordie’s working life was cut short in 1977 after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm. At that life-altering time, he was employed as a salesman with Scotia Wholesale, Sydney, travelling to the Isle Madame area, as well as, Sydney, Glace Bay and New Waterford.
Gordie was a very kind, friendly and outgoing person, who up until the last few days of his life, was always eager to go out around shopping, meeting people and to make new friends out of strangers. That was my Gordie! He really enjoyed our trips of recent years to the U.S., spending part of some winters in Florida and wanted to make a return trip to Graceland.
Besides myself, his wife, Bev, best friend and caregiver, he is survived by sisters, Isabel (Ian) MacPherson, Sydney, and Margaret Murray, Massachusetts; two nieces and two nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by a stillborn daughter and brother, Stanley Lewis.
Gordie was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church and then the Parish of the Resurrection.
A funeral service will be held at the Church of Christ the King on Friday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Interment in St. Mark’s Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Cemetery Fund or to a charity of your choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca.
