McCarthy - Katherine (Kay) W. - 1916 - 2010 - It is with sad emotions that we the children of Kay McCarthy of 12 Warren Avenue announce her sudden passing at Miramichi Regional Hospital on Dec 2, 2010. Born Dec 4, 1916 in Tilmanston, Kent England she was the daughter of the late James and Amy (Tritton) Richards. Kay came to Canada as a young war bride arriving in Halifax at Pier 21 aboard the Aquitania on April 9, 1946 and settled in her home with her husband Frank, where she still resided. Kay was a former member of the New Brunswick War Brides Association and in 2006 journeyed on the return trip to Pier 21 on the War Bride Train, the year of the War Bride. Kay was a life time member of the former Ladies Auxiliary Branch #3. Her greatest legacy to her family is faith, love and hope. Kay embraced her catholic faith and embodied her strong values in her daily life. Left with wonderful memories to treasure are her six children, Judy Morrison (Dennis) of Miramichi, Mary Brushett (Wallace) of North Kentville, NS, Betty McCarthy (Thomas) of Dartmouth, NS, Ann Richardson (Ronald) of Miramichi, Richard McCarthy and James McCarthy (Linda) of Miramichi. Twelve grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Chris (Natalie) Jason (Lynka), Amy (Tim), Mark, Michelle, Donna (Steve), Karri, Zachry, James and Andrew. Twelve great-grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Michael, Kyle, Candace, Joshua, Jasmine, Brandon, Tye, Karlea, Laken and Kaden. Sister-in-laws, Audrey Richards of Kent, England and Connie McCarthy of Scarborough, Ont. Six nieces Patsy, Annette, Debbie, Susan, Marigold and Mary. Four nephews, Bernard, Kevin, Wayne and David, her extended family she referred to as her Canadian sisters, War-Brides, Mairi King, Mary Blakely, Dorothy Hersey, Kay Stark, Edith Swaine, Eileen Bransfield and Special friend Ellie Maynes. Will be sadly missed by her home buddy Minnie her cat. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Kay will be reunited with her parents, her husband Frank (1987), her sister Amy, and her brothers Ern, Bill, Jim and Fred.
Katherine McCarthy is resting at Maher's Funeral Home, 35 University Avenue, Miramichi on Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2pm at St Michael's Basilica followed by cremation, interment at St Michael's Cemetery Miramichi and St. Andrew's Cemetery in England at a later date. Donations to Miramichi Senior Citizens Home (Seniors on the Go Program) or the Local Food Bank would be appreciated.
