BALISH (HINES), Winnifred Eva, 89, Lockeport, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Born in Central Argyle, she was the daughter of the late Winfred and Della (Bower) Hines. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She loved her family and was deeply devoted to her church. Tirelessly she gave her time to raise her children and instilled into them the importance of faith and righteousness. After graduating she worked at Yarmouth General Hospital and later while working in Lockeport she met her husband, Harold Vincent Balish Sr. She became a volunteer and received an Appreciation Award for all her efforts. She was strong, loving, patient and giving. Winnifred is survived by her children, Harold Jr. Lockeport; Linda (Robert Hardiman), Lockeport; Kent (Sybil), Lockeport; Craig, Toronto; Diane, Lakeside, Halifax County; Kevin, Lockeport; Michael (Julie), Lockeport; Dana (Brian Nickerson), Lockeport; Shelley (Allan Bailey), Lantz; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Sr.; grandson, Mark Cooke and granddaughter, Danielle Bell. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Lockeport. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers, the nurses and Dr. Wilson. Special love and gratitude to her son, Kevin, who gave many dedicated years of compassionate loving care and comfort.
