Peacefully at the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, with his wife and family by his side, of Melvin John DesRoches of the Tignish Senior Co-op Home and formerly of Greenmount, aged 93 years. Beloved husband of Exzelia (nee Arsenault) DesRoches. Born on Sept. 6, 1917, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth DesRoches. Lovingly remembered by his wife Zellie and children: Melvin Jr. (Lillian) of Greenmount; Douglas (Colleen) of Toronto; Donald of Toronto; Reginald (Gertie) of Toronto; Wayne (Lula) of Greenmount; and Loring (Jean) of Tignish Shore. He is also survived by his step-children: Gerald (Irma) Christopher; Doreen (Rennie) Richard; Ann (John) Pitre; Joanne (Claude) Gaudette; Steve (Lucy) Christopher; Len (Mary) Christopher; Bernie Lambert; Angela Arsenault; Wilf (Bonnie) Christopher; Ken (Nancy) Christopher; and Josie Nicolajen. He will be sadly missed by his 16 grandchildren and by his great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Fred (Alice) DesRoches of Saint John, N.B. He was predeceased by his first wife Bertha (nee DesRoches) in 1998, a son Victor, his brother Collings DesRoches, and by a daughter-in-law Kim DesRoches. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton. Visiting hours Sunday, Dec. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral on Monday morning, Dec. 27, from St. Simon and St. Jude Church, Tignish, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment in the church cemetery.
