Margaret Hovey

The death of Margaret Theresa Hovey occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 after a brief illness. Born in Doaktown, NB, February 3, 1930, she was one of 14 children and the daughter of the late William and Lucy Gaston. She is survived by her son Jerry Hovey (Terry) and daughters, Marilyn Hovey (Jerry Weaver), Shirley Amos (Kimball), and grandchildren Jenny, Hailee, Holly, Christina and great grandchild Seth; sisters Betty (Ove) Neess, Shirley (Bill) Harkness, Sharon (Mervillle) Clowater, Eleanor (Evelock) Gilks and Joanne Gaston; brothers William, Edward (Glenna), Wilfred (Jan), Bev (Linda) and sisters-in-law Lona and Exelda, and special dog friend Molly. She was predeceased by her husband Wilson and brothers Floyd, Morrissey, Ronald and Robert and sisters-in-law Roberta and Deanna and all of the brothers and sisters of her late husband, Wilson. Margaret was one of the first telephone operators in Doaktown and later Chatham. At a young age she worked as a maid at Tom Boyd's camp and retired as a cook after 22 years at the Miramichi Salmon Club. She enjoyed playing Bingo, darts, curling, swimming and quilting. She loved to learn new things, she started piano lessons at the age of 65 and took computer courses beginning at the age of 70 years. Margaret Volunteered throughout her life with such organizations as The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23, CWL, Meals on Wheels and The Veterans reading club at the Doaktown Primary School. Margaret also enjoyed travelling and visited England, Scotland and Wales, the Caribbean, Alaska, Eastern and Southern USA and parts of Canada.
Resting at Our Lady of Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, Doaktown, NB, Visitation will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Blissfield, NB.
For those who wish, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Doaktown or the CWL Doaktown or a charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Davidson's Funeral Home, Miramichi, NB.
