It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ignatius Patrick Matthews, age 60, announce his sudden passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.Predeceased by his parents, Patrick & Cecilia Matthews; brother by whom he was raised, Thomas Matthews Jr.; father-in-law, Lawrence Matthews; siblings-in-law,Shirley Matthews & Ned Corbett. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Rose Matthews, Brent s Cove, NL; children, John Matthews (Tonya Byrne),Fort McMurray, AB, Glen Matthews (Chantal), Hamilton, ON, Corey Matthews (Connie), Picton, ON,and Amy Payne(Gerard),Fort McMurray, AB; grandchildren, Ryan Whalen & Amber Matthews, and their mother, Roxanne Whalen; Zane Matthews; Cole & Hannah Matthews; Mark, Jasmine & Jenna Payne; siblings, Alphonus Matthews (Kathleen), Walter Matthews, Bernice Corbett, and Marie Matthews, all of Brents Cove, NL, Dorothy Holling, Harbour Grace, NL, Linda Loder (Terry), Badger, NL, Madeline Haas (James), Brent s Cove, NL, and Stella Valitta (Claudio), Italy; special sister-in-law by whom he was raised, Violet Matthews, and her children, Lorraine MacNeil (Joe), Cynthia Critch (Danny), Marcella Sullivan (Pat), and Cordelia Gallant (Mike); mother-in-law, Nora Matthews; siblings-in-law, Gerald Matthews(Leonie),Aloysius Matthews, Patrick Matthews(Anastasia),Loyola Matthews (Cordella),Bernadette O'Driscoll(Michael),Stephen Matthews(Leeann),Michael Matthews(Betty-Lou),Anthony Matthews and Barry Matthews(Carmelita);many nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Joseph Tebsis conducted the funeral mass at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church & Cemetery, Brent s Cove,NL on Saturday, January 15, 2011.Pallbearers were John Matthews, Glen Matthews, Corey Matthews, Walter Matthews, Gerald Matthews, Sylvester Drover and the crossbearer was Don Haas.
