It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Irene Bendick of Kamloops on January 17, 2011 at 80 years of age after a brave battle with cancer.

Irene is survived by Alexander, her devoted and loving husband of 62 years.

She will also be dearly missed by her sons Stewart (Darlene) of Kamloops and Barry (Roxanne) of Stony Plain, AB. Her grandchildren Calandra of Langley, Vanessa of Merritt, Kristina (Donald and one-year-old Isabella) of Kamloops, Sarah of Kamloops, Trent, Danielle (Chris and two-year-old Marshall) and Chase (Julie) of Stony Plain, AB will miss Grandma/Great Grandma's hugs and kisses.

Mom was predeceased by her sisters Kathleen, Betty and Mary and leaves behind her brother Bill of Airdrie, AB and sister Margaret of Edmonton, AB. Also left to mourn are Irene's nieces and nephews and her dearly loved friends.

Irene was born in Edmonton and grew up on a small farm in Callahoo. Irene met Al in Edmonton and they married in 1949. The family lived in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, and B.C. due to Dad's work. Mom stayed home to run the household and loved to be around family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were special treasures that she adored. She always looked forward to the time spent visiting her family and friends. Mom and her lady friends loved to travel together and spent almost a month in Portugal, visited Nova Scotia and made several trips along the Oregon Coast. Irene spent many years volunteering at the Cancer Society in Kamloops and was a true advocate whether she was volunteering to work in the office or out in the fields or parks. Mom loved to curl and lawn bowl.

The family would like to thank Drs. du Preez and Proctor, the staff at RIH, Kamloops Hospice and The Shores for their wonderful care and consideration.

Reverend Jack Phelps will conduct a Celebration of Irene's Life at The Shores Retirement Residence at 870 Westminster Avenue in Kamloops on January 29, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.
