Kincaid, Robert Pettengill – 93, Springside, passed away peacefully February 11, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Robert was born in Leeds, Maine on July 31, 1917, a son of the late Rev. George and Lovisa (Pettengill) Kincaid.
In his early years, Robert worked for a local lumber company and enjoyed the experience of working on the spring river drives. He worked for 39 years at the Halifax Shipyards, retiring as a general foreman. On retirement, he enjoyed working in his woodlot and travelling, especially to Newfoundland and Labrador. He also spent many enjoyable hours on the local rivers salmon fishing.
Robert will be missed by his devoted wife of 74 years, the former Thurly Graham; sons, Rodney (Mary), North River; Wayne (Coral), Upper LaHave; daughters, Ava Geddes (Ken Day); Helen (Reuben) Cameron, both of Meadowvale; grandchildren, Shelly (George) Flemming; Cathy (Neils) Keyser; Cindy (Steve) Webster; Corinna (Mark) Lowe; Kevin (Leah) Kincaid; Marvin (Sandra) Geddes; Allan Geddes; Brian (Kathlene) Cameron; Glen (Rosanne) Cameron; great-grandchildren, Freya and Peter Keyser; Robbie and Jim Flemming; Kaydee Kincaid-Webster; Katherine and Nicolas Lowe; Jessica and Marley Geddes; Mitchell, Brandon, Christian and Alyssa Cameron; special sister, Mary Horan, St. John’s, NL; several nieces and nephews in St. John’s and Maine. Robert was predeceased by son-in-law, Roy Geddes; sister, Catherine Rines; brothers-in-law, Fred Rines and Dr. Patrick Horan.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday 7-9 p.m. and funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m., both in Springside United Church, Rev. Marilyn MacDonald officiating. Family will meet friends for a reception following the service in the church hall. Spring burial will be in Eastville Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Springside United Church, Canadian Cancer Society, Colchester-East Hants Hospice Society, or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
