CORKUM, Dorothy Laura - 92, of the Wolfville Nursing Home, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in the Home. Born in Lower Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Evelyn (Cavanaugh) Allen. She had been employed as a Postal Clerk with Canada Post in Ottawa, and locations in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. She was also employed with Eaton’s in Toronto. She was a member of the New Minas Baptist Church and the Kings County Crusaders. She was also a member of the C.W.A.C. for six years and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick and Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville, as well as member of the Ladies Auxiliary in both branches. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Christie, Lakeville; three sons, Karl (Cheryl), Beaverbank; Wayne (Theresa), Melanson; Michael (Elizabeth), Mt. Uniacke; five sisters, Ena (John) Rogers, Barbara (Ken) Mitchell, Rosalind (Gill) Moreau, Beverley Brown and Audrey (Tony Stirling); five brothers, Leslie (Charlotte), Alton (Sheila), Steven (Maxine), Budd and Paul (Marg); 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Harry Corkum; a daughter, Maureen Luckhurst; four brothers, Joseph, Chesley, Glen and Charlie. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial took place in the Gaspereau Cemetery, Gaspereau, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
