Roland C. Elsliger of Nackawic, NB passed away March 30, 2011 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born at Dalhousie, NB in 1926, he was a son of the late Edward and Gertrude (Letourneau) Elsliger. Roland was a World War II Veteran and had been employed for forty-seven years in the Pulp and Paper industry. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Southampton Branch # 27 as well as a longtime member of the Nackawic Curling Club and Nackawic Golf Club. Roland was a faithful member of St. Simon and St. Jude Catholic Church. He enjoyed cribbage games at Middle Southampton Community Hall. Roland is survived by two sons, Barry Elsliger (Sheila), Rossville, NB and Brian Elsliger (Colette), Dieppe, NB; five grandchildren, Kim Myshrall (Jason), Nackawic, Jason Elsliger (Megan), Fredericton, Cindy Elsliger (Ramon), Vancouver, BC, Kevin Elsliger (Julie), Dieppe, NB and Marley Dempsey (Tracy), Southampton, NB; four great grandchildren, Tristan Myshrall, Gracie Myshrall, Leah Dempsey and Timothy Jack Dempsey; two sisters, Delores (Tiny) Hickey (Bob), Barrie, ON and Jeannine Phillips, Dalhousie, NB; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roland was predeceased by his wife, Irene Elsliger in 2006; a brother, Wilfred (Bud) Elsliger and two sisters, Lorraine Elsliger and an infant sister.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A RCL Tribute service will be held at funeral home at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Simon and St. Jude Catholic Church, Nackawic, NB on Monday, April 4 at 11 a.m. Celebrant Father Godwin Kalu. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Simon and St. Jude Cemetery. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Roland, the family has suggested the Canadian Cancer Society.
