Gordon Joseph Julian Sr., 53, Waycobah First Nation passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Joe and Philemenia (Augustine) Julian.
Gordon worked as a Fishery Guardian for 17 years. He volunteered for many organizations and Pow-Wows. Gordon was very proud of his culture and native traditional ways, respecting his elders. He loved blueberry raking in Maine, fishing for the elders in his community, loved to tell stories and thought a lot of his family in Big Cove, N.B. He was known as “Uncle” and his saying “eh” to many.
Gordon is survived by his loving companion of 21 years, Rose Marie Prosper; sons, Gordon Jr., John Sam, Hunter, all of We’koqma’q; daughters, Susan Prosper, Patty Prosper, both of We’koqma’q, Georgette Paul, Eskasoni, Lisa Sack, Bonny Lea Farm, Chester Basin; sisters, Mary Lou Bernard, Indian Brook, Genevive Julian, Big Cove, N.B., Doris Hanscomb, Afton; brother, Stewart Milliea, Boston; seven grandchildren; extended family of Indian Brook, Shubenacadie; foster father, Jay Jay Julian and the late Gudlin Jay; brothers, Gerald ‘Red’, John, Russell, Paul; sisters, Sylvia French, Sandra Julian, Carol ‘Kool Aid’ Paul. He often thought of his godchildren, Patrick Paul, Indian Brook, the late Ryan Toney, Eskasoni and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Dale, Edgar, James ‘Jay’, sister, Annabella Peters.
He will be resting at the family residence, 230 Subdivision Rd., We’koqma’q, after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Mass will be held 11a.m. Thursday in Blessed Kateri Parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q, Fr. Robert McNeil officiating. Cremation to follow, burial at a later date in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Summerside, Afton.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh.
