White, Shirley Marie(Ward) – 82, Smith’s Cove, Digby Co. passed away April 5, 2011 at home with her family by her side. Born in Sackville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Daisy (Reid) Ward. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she made a home for her family wherever her husband’s career in the military took them. In each place they were stationed, she developed life long lasting relationships with friends from across Canada. Her house was always open to friends and family and it always felt like “home”. Shirley was employed at the Children’s Training Center in Digby, where she worked in housekeeping. She enjoyed cooking, and her homemade bread and donuts were well known. Shirley also enjoyed puzzle books, quilting, knitting, being with her grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Shirley will be sadly missed and always remembered. Surviving are her daughters, Brenda (Robert) LeBlanc, Petawawa, ON; Lesa (Anthony Ross) White-Turpin, Smith’s Cove; sons Martin (Shelly), Richard (Valerie) all of BC; and Kenneth (Carol) AB; one brother Donald Ward, Sackville, NB; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William; and a son Garry; sisters Marjorie, Muriel, Agnes, Ruby and brothers Gordon, Gerald, Arthur, Raymond and Harold. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2pm Friday April 15th at Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby (245-2525) Pastor Mark Cress will officiate with burial in the Sulis-Smith Cemetery, Smith’s Cove. Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the NS Lung Association or Canadian Cancer Society.
