It is with great sadness we announce the death of Bernice Irene Smith of Saint John, wife of the late A. Estey Smith, occurred on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Kennebec Manor. Born on August 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Bessie (Glendenning) Cook. Bernice was employed at NBTel for many years before working with Maritime Tel & Tel for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and past Treasurer for the Milford Community Club. Survived by her sisters, Debby Brando of Saint John; Dorothy Langille of BC and Margaret “Peggy” Stoodley (Ken) of ON; special aunt, Helen Welling, special niece and nephews: Deanna and David (Yvette) Brando and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by her brothers, Charles and Robert Cook.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 10 AM. Interment will take place in Fairhaven Cemetery, Moncton, NB. Family flowers only; remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
