It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Clarence Joseph Bona, age 89, on Friday, May 26, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pondville on December 28, 1927, Clarence was the son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth ‘Libby’ (Fourgere) Bona.
Clarence was in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II. He was a gifted and creative tradesman with many talents and skills. He was a jack of all trades and held jobs such as Steeple Jack which few others would pursue. He was an ironworker and worked construction for many years until retirement. Dad could turn his hands to do any task small or large and do it well.
Clarence is dearly loved and will be forever missed by daughters, Lillian (Eldin) Campbell, Alberta, Anne (Roddy) Bereziuk, Darthmouth, Marie Chiasson, Victoria Mines, Clarisse (Bert) MacDonald, Catalone Gut, Rosalie (Billie) Usher, Gardener Mines and Eileen (Dale), Alberta; sons, Joey (Valetta), Ont., Jimmy (Sharon), Whitney Pier and Jerry (Kim), Ont. He has 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Dad is also survived by a sister, Marie Babin, West Arichat; brothers, Bill, Ont. and Alexander, Pondville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Florence (Fanning); son, John; daughter, Gloria and baby Troy Hennick; son-in-law, Eddie Chiasson; sisters, Dorothy, Irene, Beatrice, and brothers, James, Gustave, Delore and Alcide.
At Dad’s request cremation has taken place. A private family visitation and memorial service will take place at a later date. Dad’s final resting place will be in new Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Donations in memory of Clarence may be made to Cape Breton Resi-Care, Cape Breton Cancer Care Program at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of one’s choice.
