SHELDON 'SHELLY' MCNEIL

Born In: DOMINION, Nova Scotia, Canada
Born: December 1st, 1945

Passed in: Canada
Passed on: May 28th, 2017

It is with broken hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Sheldon McNeil, age 71, of Glace Bay, on May 28, 2017.
He was born and raised in Dominion, December 1, 1945; he was a son of the late Dan T and Florence (Powell) McNeil.
Sheldon was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather. He had a personality that was larger than life, a smile that was infectious and was a friend to all. He loved nothing more than helping others. He worked as a coal miner almost 30 years and loved sharing his passion for the coal mines working at the Miners Museum. He was a strong advocate for unions and helped many fight for their union rights as well as fought for so many to have the pensions and compensation they deserved. He volunteered for far too many organizations to name them all but nearest and dearest to his heart was the Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family and could be found often running his grandchildren from one event to another. There is a piece of our hearts gone forever. He certainly set the bar high for any man in his girls' life as they were all his princesses. He loved his impromptu chats on the phone with Shelly and beamed with pride for the man his boy has become.
He will be forever missed by his wife, best friend, and soul mate, Linda McNeil; children, John Sheldon (Terri), Paula, Dana (Chris), Suzie (David); grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew, Ashley, Barry, Sean, Gavin, Catriona, Riley, Gabriel; great-granddaughter, Baileigh; sisters, Lois (Albert), Shirley; sister-in-law, Gail; his in-law family, Mary(Bernie), Betty(Fred), Tom(Anita), Dan(Linda), Henry(Paula), Bernadette(Andrew), John(Karen); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son in infancy, Thomas Joseph; brothers, Mike, Rod ‘Hun’, George ‘Porky’, Earl, Wayne; sisters, Mary ‘Dit’, Florence, Christine; brothers-in-law, Joe McNeil, Jake Saccary; sister-in-law, Yvonne; mother and father-in-law, Thomas ‘Tucker’ & Regina McMullin; son-in-law, Leon Mackie.

Funeral Mass of Resurrection Friday 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church with Rev. Leo Boone officiating.
