Alex Maxwell Sangster

NEW GLASGOW – Alex Maxwell Sangster, 89, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Linacy, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 29, 2017 in the Manor, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Harbour, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Arthur Oscar and Mabel Elizabeth Sangster.
Retiring in 1991, he was employed with Michelin Tire for 17 years and previously with the former MacGregor Bedding for 27 years. Alex operated Sangster’s Iron Works for many years. He was a faithful member of the former Calvary Temple Church and The Life Centre, New Glasgow where he served in many capacities.
Alex was a member of The Gideons International in Canada for over 50 years. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, skating, skiing, snowmobiling and driving. Alex leaves a legacy of gentleness, respect, love and unwavering faith.
Surviving are daughters, Shirley (Mark Steinhart) Sangster, Leanne Sangster, Patti (Keith) Cameron; sons, Michael (Tara) Sangster, Jeff (Angela Cavanagh) Sangster; grandchildren, Nicole (Richard) Baker, Lauren Steinhart, Krista Steinhart and Azi Lim, Jake (Stacey) Arbuckle, Jonah (Valerie) Arbuckle, Tyler (Matt Dixon) Arbuckle, Brody (Joanne) Cameron, Emily (Rocco) Agostini, Brendan Sangster, Trevor Sangster, Maddy Sangster, Gracie Sangster; great-grandchildren, Jack and Charlie Baker, Kashel, Olivia, Charlie and Eliot Arbuckle, Ava and Isabella Dixon, Luciano and Clara Agostini; brother, Watson Sangster, New Glasgow; nieces, nephews and foster children.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Irma; infant son, Timothy; sisters, Genesta Euloth, Dorothy Sangster, Gertrude Sangster and June MacKay.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-10:50 a.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Keith Hazzard officiating. Interment will in Riverside Cemetery, New Harbour.
Donations may be made in Alex’s memory to The Gideons International in Canada or Riverside Cemetery, New Harbour.
