Mom was born in Sydney and lived in a small home on Bentick St. She was the youngest daughter of Gertrude (Linda) and James Reid. She grew up with her 4 sisters Dorothy, Ruby, Shirley and Merle. They have all predeceased her. Mom married the love of her life Garnet in February of 1950. Dad built their home on Weidner Dr. in Sydney River, where they both lived till their passing. Here they started their little family. Patricia (Patsy) (deceased), Linda(Dave) living in Niagara Falls, Scott (Ellen) living in Cole Harbor and Richard(Rick) (Ann) living in the Pier. Linda gave her 5 grandchildren, Emily, Justin(deceased), Allison, Ry and Bren. Who in turn have blessed her with 5 great grandchildren, Haven, Grayson, Scarlett, Ryder and baby Stella. Scott gave her 3 wonderful grandsons, Scott Jr., Alex, and Anthony (Tony).and 2 great grandsons Nathan and Orion. Rick blessed her with Katelynd and Garnet.
Mom was loved, admired and respected by all who knew her. She loved to sew and her grandchildren have the proof in their wardrobes. Knitting, crocheting and in later years painting were her interests. She was an active member of Br.12 Legion in Sydney and won many awards with her dart league. In the early years, she gathered neighbors (Frances Farrell, Christine Hart and many others) to form a card club and took turns meeting in each other’s home for laughter and food. When we were young mom would actually gather us outside and play dodgeball with us after supper. On each of our birthdays she would ask what we wanted for supper and no matter the response, that is the meal she would make. Mine was always her homemade baked beans and butterscotch pie. She would gather the 4 of us around her at night and read to us. I particularly remember one book about an otter and all 5 of us were in tears at the telling, she was that good a story teller. In later years she had her little dog Wally to love and spoil, a more loved animal never lived. As per request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service at the time.
Online condolences may be made to the family at www.chantsfuneralhome.ca. Mom’s world was rocked when our dad passed away, and she never fully recovered.
Our mom was a kind and gentle soul and the world was a happier place with her in it.
We love you mom of ours,

Linda, Scott, and Rick
