GRAHAM, Gordon Lewis - 93, of Berwick, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Parkers Cove, Annapolis County, on September 16, 1917, he was a son of the late Howard and Martha (Gregory) Graham. He was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church, having served as a Deacon and Treasurer for many years and now serving as an Honourary Deacon. He was a veteran of the Second World War, Manager of Kingswood Camp, past Noble Grand of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Berwick. He was a former member of Berwick Town Council and Berwick Police Commission, a charter member of the Berwick Lions Club as well as past chairman of the Progressive Conservative Party of Kings West. Gordon served as treasurer and board member of the Western Kings Memorial Hospital for 30 years, as well as being an active member of the building committee of the Berwick Arena. He served several years as a director and former president of the Canadian Cancer Society. He and his family owned and operated G.L. Graham Co. Ltd. for 33 years. In 2006, he and his wife Edna were honoured with a tribute dinner for the many active years he spent in the town and surrounding area. For many years, they were foster parents to unfortunate children through World Vision of Canada. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Edna Beatrice (Rafuse) Graham; sons, Denton (Mary), Berwick; Wendell (Marijean), Wolfville; grandchildren, Lori (Rick) Rooseboom, Lynn (Todd) Dempsey, Berwick; Scott, Calgary; Meghan, Ottawa; and Andrew (Susanna), Boston; great-grandchildren, Braden, Logan and Hannah Dempsey and Tessa and Claire Rooseboom; many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by sisters, Oda, Margaret, and Grace Graham, Nellie Connor and Thelma Larsen; brothers, Robert and Raymond. There was no visitation, by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 in the Berwick Baptist Church, Reverend Marilyn Rose officiating. A private family committal took place in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church or the Valley Regional Hospital.
