Marion "Ruth" Young passed away on June 10, 2017 at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing, at age 81. She was the widow of the late Ronald Young, and was undoubtedly welcomed by him and their dogs Zoe, Toby and Patches, in God's embrace. Ruth was born in Bishop's Falls to the late George and Jesse Hannon. She was predeceased by brothers Reginald, Alphonsus, Edward, Ronald, and sister and best friend Marjorie Bennett. Ruth will be remembered by her family and friends for her love of the Rosary, her irreverent sense of humor, quick wit, reliability, her proficient use of "colourful language", her love of action movies, word seek puzzles, Chinese food, moose hunting and cod jigging, Daniel O'Donnell's music, and soap operas, especially Coronation Street. Her children will hold the blankets and vamps she knit with love close to their hearts, and will miss her Sunday dinners, phone calls, and chats. Ruth leaves to mourn her children Larry (Sharon) Bennett of Stephenville, Maureen Bennett (Ata), Wanda Bennett, Tim (Jackie) Bennett, all of Toronto, ON, Jeff Bennett (Becky) of Lucky Lake, SK, Chris Young (Carrie) of Barrie, ON, and Jenny (Jerry) Baranowski of Rocky Hill, CT; she is also survived by grandchildren Kellee, Zachary, Jason, Jonathan, Justin, Dylan, Candice, and Jay; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister and best friend Mae McKay; brothers Robert and Everett Hannon; and a large circle of half siblings, extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Bay St. George Longterm Care Centre for their compassionate care, friendship, and empathy they showed Ruth during her stay there. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. The Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. from St. Joseph's Parish, St. George's, NL with Father Edmund Dantes officiating. Inurnment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Shallop Cove will take place following the service. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
