MCMASTER, JOHN JAMES - Jack was born June 17, 1943 at Edmonton, Alberta and died at home at Forest Hill, NS on September 24, 2016. After graduating from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary and the School of Visual Arts, NYC he worked as lead graphic designer at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto. In 1979 Jack and his family moved to Lonsdale, Ontario and he began to pursue book illustration and landscape drawing and painting. Wishing to be closer to family they resettled to Wolfville in 2004 where he continued to pursue his artistic passions. Jack was a quiet gentleman, an incredible husband, father, grampy and friend. He is survived by his wife MJ, son Evan (Tasha), daughter Mattie, grandson Lachlan and granddaughter Rowan. He was predeceased by his parents Mae and Angus and by his sister Judy. Jack’s family wish to thank dear friends Dave MacNeil (Bev) and Andrew Steeves for sharing work, conversation and humour over his years in Nova Scotia. For their kindness and care, thank you also to doctors Chris King and Julia Merryweather. Jack’s request was for no funeral and that his family scatter his ashes to the wind and waters of the Bay of Fundy. He believed that we all should leave this world in a better state than when we entered and to that end trees are being planted in his memory. His “forest” is now growing from BC, through Ontario, here in NS and in England. He would be pleased.
