Osborne Harris “Sonny” Lowther

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Osborne Harris “Sonny” Lowther age 78 of Amherst on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Gable Lodge in Amherst.
Sonny was born in Athol, NS and was a son of the late Lauren and Leona (Dow) Lowther.
Sonny was educated in Nappan. As a teenager Sonny joined the Experimental Farm and proudly worked there for 35 years. He later worked as a meat and produce inspector for Agriculture Canada in Moncton from where he retired.
He had a great love for music especially Bluegrass, Gospel and enjoyed playing guitar, was a goalie with the Farmer League, Ronald MacDonald Fun Timer’s as well as the Gentleman’s Hockey League and found great peace at the beach. The family will cherish the memories at Disney and the passion Sonny had for travelling.
He was a true and loving family man and will be forever remembered.
Sonny will be sadly missed by his wife, Vivian Wray; beloved daughters, Karen (Larry) Hamilton, Onslow, Jo-Ann Potter, Springhill; grandchildren, Joseph (Laura), Potter, Kenneth (Almida) Potter, Nicholas (Karen) Stanley and Matthew (Katie) Stanley; six great grandchildren; sister, Linda Canning, Springhill, nephew, Steven (Krista) Spicer and niece, Janette (Shane) Melanson both of Springhill; step children, Marilyn (John) Douwes, Keith Porter, Karen (Tom) Lomas, Peggy (Andre) Gravel, Trudy (Gary) Kniss all of Ontario and Barry (Dianne) Porter of Alberta; 13 step grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 49 years, Janet Boss; son-in-law, Rod Potter; brother-in-law, Fred Canning.
A celebration of Sonny’s Life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 between 1:00 – 4:00 pm from Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906. Interment will take place in the Athol Cemetery.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made in Sonny’s memory to the charity of your choice.
