Murray Owen “Mike” Shiers, age 86, Tonge Hill, Hants County, passed on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Mike was born on March 20, 1931, at Newport Station, Hants County, Nova Scotia, and was the son of the late Albert and Annie (Caldwell) Shiers. Mike worked for more than 40 years with Fundy Gypsum Company, retiring in 1993. In his earlier years, he enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, ATV’ing, music and playing cards. He also enjoyed hanging out with his friends at Tim Horton’s. Mike is survived by wife, Jessie Moore; sons, Danny Shiers (Kelli Greening), Windsor; Terry (Trena) Shiers, Three Mile Plains, Greg (Brenda) Shiers, Three Mile Plains; daughter, Margaret Ann Shiers (Blaine Hart), St. Croix; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides parents, Thomas Albert Shiers and Annie Elizabeth (Caldwell) Shiers; Mike was predeceased by first wife, Dorothy Mabel (Galley) Shiers (2000); two infant children; a granddaughter; brothers, Frank Shiers and Tom Shiers; sisters, Margaret Ettinger and Mary Swinamer. As requested by Mike, a private family graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street, Windsor, with Helen L. Lindsay, (Celebrant).
