It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Joyce Ann Matthews, age 78, on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan.
Born in River Hebert, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ada (Roberts) Richard.
Joyce was a cook all her working career with positions at the Lady Amherst Restaurant, the Fort Cumberland Hotel and the Wandlyn Inn. Joyce and her husband, Doug were proud owner and operators of D & J taxi.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Doug Matthews, son Michael, River Hebert, and daughters Deborah Matthews-Ripley of Amherst and Janice Matthews (Stuart Bauld) of Halifax, grandchildren Mike, Ryan and Krysta, sisters, Doris Burbine of River Hebert, Ruby Burbine of Amherst, and brothers, James of Springhill and Robert of Ontario.
Besides her parents Joyce was predeceased by her sister Pearl O’Brien.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 1:00 pm until funeral service at 2:00 pm in Campbell’s Funeral Home Chapel, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906 with Rev. Don Miller officiating. Reception to follow. Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to Cumberland Regional Health Care Palliative Care Unit.
