Mary Theresa (Buckland) McCarthy
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Mary Theresa McCarthy, announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the age of 86.
Born in Sydney on October 16, 1930, Theresa was the daughter of Louis and Helen Buckland.
On September 4, 1954, she married Daniel McCarthy and together, they had one child. For 30 years, Theresa was employed as a secretary for the Inspector of Schools. She enjoyed skating, knitting, sewing, BINGO and camping at Broad Cove Campground. Theresa was a member of the Sydney Bridge Club, CWL (Our Lady of Fatima Parish) and the Foster Parents Plan of Canada.
She is survived by her only daughter, Anne Louise Miller; two brothers, Gordon and Vince (Diane) Buckland, Sydney; four grandchildren, Melissa (Ron), Halifax, Natasha (Cory), British Columbia, Shawn (Alexandra), Halifax and Kyle, Halifax; eight great-grandchildren, Abigail, Jackson, Noah, Isaiah, Jonah, Molly, Cooper and Tessa.
Besides her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Daniel McCarthy; sister, Louise Theresa (in infancy); brothers, Steve (Dolores), Louis (Jean) and Bill (Emily).
There will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Tuesday, June 20 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association or a charity of your choice.
