Passed on: June 18th, 2017

A quiet Sunday morning June 18, 2017, Father’s Day, saw the peaceful passing of our kind, gentle dad, John William Crane, with his devoted family by his side. The twinkle in his eyes will forever light our way and his laughter will forever warm our hearts. John was born September 15, 1936, in Sydney, to parents, Bill and Christine.
He is survived by sons, Andrew (Beverly) and Steve (Gail), both of Sydney; daughter, Bonnie (Jamie), Dartmouth; step-daughters, Donna (Kevin) Wilson, California, Janice (Shaun) Kelly, North Carolina, Sandra (Darryl) Balmas, Ontario and Lisa (Darrell) Rogers, Westmount; beloved grandchildren, Leisha and Matthew, Connor and Katie, Keegan and Noah; brother, Andrew (Marilyn); sister-in-law, Winnie. His love extended to Kayla and Christopher, Rowan and Tessa.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Henry “Butch”, his first wife, Shirley (Sparkes) and second wife, Doris (Gosse).
John was a devoted family man with a huge heart. He was a beautiful light that people were drawn to without effort. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his best friend and brother, Andrew exploring Cape Breton and enjoying the Mira with his dear friends Art and Frankie. He had a lifelong love of sketching and painting. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his family. John was employed at Lynch’s Bakery and then, Sydney Steel as a stationary engineer until his retirement.
Thank you to Dr. Glen Worth, staff of the An Cala unit, Dr. Thomas Hewlett and staff of the Renal Dialysis Unit and staff of 4B. Special thanks to Catherine Doyle Howley and Anna Deveau.
