Ronald Daniel Cadigan

Passed on: June 17th, 2017

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his loving family on June 17th, 2017. Ronald fought a courageous battle against Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a disease that attacked his autonomic nervous system. Throughout the course of his illness he remained brave, strong and determined. Celebrating his life are his wife of 31 years, Barbara (nee Nurse); sons James (Kelia Pond) and Daniel (Nancy); siblings Mary Roche (Len), Patricia Winterson (Paul), Nora Myers (Tom, deceased), Lorraine Cole (Leo, deceased), Gerry Cadigan (Diana) and Lorraine Cadigan. Also left to remember his spirit are his brothers and sisters-in-law of the Nurse family Tom (Sandy), Rick (Marie), Noel (Jackie), Chuck (Marietta), Clarice Maher (Dave), Robert (Cathy), Chris (Debbie), Gary, Kathryn Halley (Gerry, deceased) and Elizabeth Hunt (Calvin). Included are the dearly loved nieces and nephews of both the Cadigan and Nurse families. Predeceased by his mother and father Nora and James Cadigan; brother Dave Cadigan; niece Kristine Cadigan; nephew Kenneth Cadigan; and best friend and brother-in-law Leo Cole; as well as Barbara's parents Charlie and Mary Nurse and her brother Gerard Nurse. Ronald will be dearly missed by his life-long friends from his days at the big river in Outer Cove, on the ice during his hockey career, the crowd around Quidi Vidi Lake and especially his email buddies. He will be fondly remembered by the staff of The City of St. John's Assessment Department and his colleagues while serving as Deputy Mayor of the Town of Logy Bay, Middle Cove and Outer Cove. A special thank you is extended to family friend and MHA Kevin Parsons for his outpouring of love and support. The family would like to thank the outpatient services at the Miller Centre, Dr. Pat O'Shea, Dr. Allan Goodridge, Dr. Jamie Farrell, Dr. Lee, Dr. Organ, community nurse Dawn Clarke, caregiver and friend Tony Greene, and the incredible staff of the ICU at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road Wednesday and Thursday 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service on Friday, June 23, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi at 9:30 am with inurnment to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ron's memory may be made to Choices for Youth in St. John's or to the Multiple System Atrophy division within Parkinson Canada. In honor of his memory, your gift will help fight this terrible, incurable, and untreatable disease with hopes that someday it may be treated, prevented or even cured.
