LANDRY, Alcide Joseph “Papa” age 92 of Hebron, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 17th. Born in Amirault’s Hill on October 16th, 1924 he was the son of the late Edmund and Lucy (Saulnier) Landry. Alcide loved to walk, (he was especially proud of all the miles he had walked). In his spare time he enjoyed playing guitar and going for drives in the old car with his grandson Trevor. He adored his grandchildren, especially his great-grandchildren; he was a wonderful husband, father and special Papa to many. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Elizabeth (Theriault) Landry; daughters, Charlene (James) Surette, Shelley (Tony) Muise both of Yarmouth and Lorraine Brown (Pictou); sons, Kevin (Donna) Landry and George (Faith) MacGillivary, Halifax; grandchildren, Trevor (Michelle) Surette, Aimee (Jason) Surette, Stacey Surette, Tyler Muise, Cheryl Muise, Raven (Logan) D’Entremont, Carter Landry, Miranda (Christopher) MacGillivary, Jared MacGillivary and John (Brandy) Brown; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Surette, Liam Surette, Jace Surette, Graydon Lynch, Spencer Surette, Penelope Brown, Barnaby Brown and two on the way; brother, Pius Landry. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters; Helen Hipson, Louise Gaudet, Evelyn Doucette, Lorraine Deviller; brothers, Emile, Homer, Eddie, Jules, Ernie as well as Augustine and Nelson in infancy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Tuesday, June 20th from 7-9 p.m. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with prayers at 8 p.m. A memorial Service was held Wednesday, June 21st at 10 a.m. from St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
