Lawrence Thomas Watson Griffin

Lawrence Thomas Watson Griffin

It is with great sadness that we the family of Lawrence Griffin, announce his passing on June 20, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Larry was the son of the late Thomas and Gladys (Johnston) Griffin. Larry also held a special place in his heart for Glady McAfee who he considered to be a second mother.
Although he made his final home in Cape Breton, after he graduated from Saint John High School in 1956, a career in the RCMP beckoned and Larry found himself stationed all over Canada but every year he made the trek back to his home in St John, New Brunswick where he would meet his sister and spend most of his time with Scott and Joan Ross and their son Andrew.
Larry was an avid sports fan and could always be heard cheering for his favorite teams the Ottawa Senators and Ohio State Buckeyes. He always had a story to be told to his friends at Tracie’s Spa and even at breakfast with anyone one that would join him with his usual companions Donnie Mackenzie and Linda Poole. When not listening to Celtic Women and the Boston Pops, Larry could be found at the Day’s Inn gym just relaxing by the hot tub.
Larry always remembered his family and friends, no matter where they lived and would do anything for them especially his niece Rebecca Fever.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Ruth (Maxwell) Griffin; daughter, Carol Ann (Derek) Francis and his step-grandchildren Dejiah Lynn, Derek Jr. and Kevin. He is also survived by his sister, Iona (Bob) Staples and their children, Laurie (Joe) Ritchie and Dave (Deb) Staples and their families.
A special thanks to all the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for taking care of him in his last days and a very special thank you to Dr. Mohen and Mabel Ann Virick for all the support they gave us over the past number of months and years.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 26, 2017 from 2-4 p.m., at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with a celebration of life to follow at 4 p.m. In the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Sheldon Chant Officiating.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation on behalf of Larry (Smokey the Bear) Griffin.
