S. IVAN ROSS

Passed on: June 23rd, 2017

With the sadness of loss and gratitude for a long life well lived, we regret to inform you of the quiet passing, at home, of our beloved father, S. Ivan Ross. Dad passed quietly, surrounded by love, on Friday, June 23, 2017.
He is survived by his three children, Pam, Wendy, and Kim and their families; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who all brought joy to Dad’s life. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Dad was the second youngest of ten children and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born in Haileybury, Ont., to the late Hugh and Elizabeth (Beatty) Ross.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Dena; three brothers and six sisters.
During the Second World War, he proudly served overseas on the HMCS Prescott. After 38 years of service, Dad retired from CNR. He went to work with a smile on his face every day. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney, the Naval Veterans Association and Golden K Club of Sydney, where he served in executive positions over the years. Following retirement, he turned his hand to his passion and taught cooking in the community schools and was one of the cooks at Loaves and Fishes. His passion for duplicate bridge was evident with his skill at playing. He will be fondly remembered by his bridge buddies at the Cape Breton Duplicate Bridge Club.
Dad was a wonderful storyteller and regaled us with stories until the end.
At Dad’s request, there will be no service and cremation has taken place.
The family will receive friends at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney on Monday, June 26 from 5-8 p.m.
Special thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt and Janice, who took excellent care of all Ivan's needs over the years. His palliative care team, Drs. Abboud, Ritter, and Burns and their nurses, Cathy and Heather. Thank you for allowing us to keep Dad at home. Gratitude to the VON for their compassionate care and professionalism every day. Dad looked forward to your visits. His personal care team, Joyce, Elaine, and Betty, who treated Dad like family and allowed him to be where he wanted to be. Dad had a wonderful support network including, Donald at DVA and Allen at Medigas. They were always there to assist us with anything he needed. Many thanks to you both.
Flowers are respectfully declined. In Dad’s memory, donations may be made to Palliative Care/ Hospice, the VON or Loaves and Fishes.
LYM Dad.
