It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of a dear husband, father and grandfather, Neil Daniel ‘Buddy’ Nicholson, on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with loving family at his side.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Neil and Catherine Nicholson.
Buddy in his younger years was employed in the Caledonia Mine then at the Fortress of Louisbourg until he became a fisherman for over 30 years until his retirement. His greatest passion was being a Volunteer Fire Fighter in Port Morien for 39 years where he was Fire Chief for 8 of those years. He also enjoyed playing Darts in both Port Morien Legion and the Port Morien Fire Hall.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Tanya (Mark); sons, Kevin and Bruce (Lisa); stepdaughters, Cynthia and Michelle (Dale); grandchildren, Jeremy and the apple of his eye, Averie Ann; sisters, Carol MacIntosh and Eva McDonald, and many nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Ann; son, John Neil ‘Jackie’; brothers, Laughlin and Lloyd in infancy; sister, Georgie, and daughter-in-law, Kelly.
Visitation for Buddy will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Thursday July 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. in St. John’s United Church, Port Morien, with Rev. Bob Biggar officiating, burial to follow in Black Brook Cemetery.
Donations in Buddy’s memory can be made to Palliative Care or St. John’s United Church Port Morien.
