Jean Marie (Ivey) MacArthur
1932-2017

“For it is in giving that we receive.” With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of our dearest mother Jean (Ivey) MacArthur on July 1, 2017, at Parkland Estates, Truro, Nova Scotia.

Jean was born in Sydney Mines, NS on February 14, 1932. She was the eldest daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Ivey. She was lovingly called Sister Jean by her six siblings who she dearly loved and looked out for in life. Jean worked at Sears Sydney and later became a full time homemaker. A devote Catholic and Christian she was a charter member of the Catholic Women’s League of St. Theresa’s and Immaculate Conception parishes.

Jean believed that the love of a family was life’s greatest blessing. She shared that love with her life partner, Harvey who predeceased her, for over 60 years. Jean devoted her life to raising and guiding their seven children; daughters Jan (John); Betty Jean (Raymond); Doreen, (Kelly); sons, Frank; Greg (Carolyn); Ian (Carole); and Harvey. Her greatest joy was celebrating the lives of her 12 grandchildren, Alex, Patrick, Nicholas, James, Elizabeth, Sebastien, Michael, Mark, Ryan, Matthew, Hannah and Hayden. Jean is survived by her brother, Ronnie Ivey, her sister-in-law Jean Ivey and her sister-in-law, Doreen MacDonnell. She was also known as Aunt Jean to many nephews and nieces. Jean leaves behind many special friends, especially her Bridge Club ladies.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5 from 6-9pm at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St, Truro. Funeral mass will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, July 6 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Prince St, Truro.

We, the family, would like to thank the staff and residents of Parkland Estates and give a special thank you to Fr. Jim O’Connor for supporting our family. In lieu of flowers and donations please pay forward a kind act in memory of Mom.
