Frances E MacKinnon

Frances E MacKinnon

Passed on: July 7th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Frances E MacKinnon on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Amadie Mombourquette and the late Alexina (Poirier) Mombourquette.
She was a graduate of Holy Angels High School and continued her studies in Secretarial Sciences. After a short stint in Gander, NL, working with the United States Air Force, she and her husband moved to Toronto and joined a small start-up company called Canadian Tire. After many years, they returned home to St. Andrew’s Channel and a quiet life on the beach. Fran spent the remainder of her working days with Woolco and Walmart in Sydney River where she retired as a greeter; a job her cheerful and loveable personality made her perfect for.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church & Choir, Honey and Friends Senior Choir and Club 55 exercise group.
Fran enjoyed coffee with friends, daily walks and time with her family. She was an avid traveller spending time in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. Fran could be heard telling stories of her most memorable trip to Scotland, where she had her first margarita.
She is survived by her sister, Irene MacRitchie (Ontario) and several nieces and nephews. She was very close to her nephew and his wife, Greg and Carrie MacRitchie, who cared for her during her illness. She adored their sons, Camden and Brendan, who also spent countless hours by her side tormenting her with new technology and teaching her to “dab”.
She is predeceased by her husband, Allan J MacKinnon; sisters, Mary LeBlanc, Agnes Ganeau, Tilley Bersuk, Faye Hague, Delores Bezanson and Noreen Squire, and brothers, Leonard Robichaud, Wilfred Robichaud and Joe Mombourquette.
There will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 13 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The An Cala Palliative Care Unit, c/o Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, PO Box 561, Sydney, B1P 6H4.
“You are a woman I call friend
I knew you at life’s beginning and will at life’s end
We walked side by side yesterday and today
Now I ask the Lord to guide us the best way”
Mary P MacDonald
