Daniel Ernest Playford

Born: August 6th, 1987

Passed on: July 4th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and an amazing friend to everyone.
Daniel Ernest Playford age 29, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends with his dad by his side at the QEll in Halifax, NS on July 4, 2017 after succumbing to his injuries from an accident in Iona, NS on July 2, 2017.
Born in Brantford, Ontario on August 6, 1987. Daniel was the youngest son of the late Rose Anne ‘Rosie’ (MacNeil) Playford and Tom Playford of Sydney, NS.
Daniel loved his family, friends and time spent with them. Daniel was one of the kindest – gentlest people who was willing to do anything for anyone.
He was a graduate of Rankin Memorial School in Iona and of Marconi Campus in Sydney with his Heavy Duty Mechanic diploma.
Daniel was loved by young and old. He could put his hand to anything. He could fix or build anything, and was an amazing artist with a tree trunk and chainsaw. Much of Daniels art can be found through the yards in his community.
Daniel was a young teen when he lost the most precious person in his life, his mom. Through his loss he learned to live for the moment, make every day count and to not put off until tomorrow for what can be done today. He lived a simple life from sun up to sun down but spent it with the people who he loved and who loved him back. Daniel and his friends could be found working in the garage or mudding it up on the back trails. He enjoyed picking on anyone who would give him a reaction. His smile was contagious, his laughter was strong and loud, to which you could hear often.
Besides his dad Tom, Daniel is survived by his sisters, Rhonda Playford of Grand Narrows, Tracey Playford of ON, Terri Playford of ON, Tammy Carbonneau of ON, Nichole MacNeil of Sydney, and his brother, Jeff MacNeil of Sydney.
He was predeceased by his loving mother, Rose Ann (MacNeil) Playford; his maternal grandparents, Vince and Theresa MacNeil, and his paternal grandparents, Ernest and Edith Playford.
Daniel will be missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy that even in death he gave back. Daniel was an organ donor. So even though he’s passed, a part of him will remain among us. To become an organ donor in NS, you can sign up through your Health Card.
Visitation will be held in Iona at the St. Columba Parish Hall Friday, July 14, 2017 from 1-4 p.m., burial to follow alongside his mom in the St. Columba cemetery. A Celebration of Daniels life will be held at the Iona Legion Branch 124 on July 22, 2017 from 9-1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to the Iona Food Bank, 2629 HWY 223 MacKinnon Harbour, NS, B2C 1H5.
Arrangements under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, NS.
Cheers!!!
