Mabel Patricia Dennis passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto on July 10, 2017 surrounded by children and loving husband.
Born on October 2, 1953 in Sydney, to the late Frank Dennis and Mary Jane Battiste.
Mabel was a CCA worker in Eskasoni and Sydney and then Membertou before retiring. She was always there for her children. Mabel was a busy woman who helped her children raise their kids. She enjoyed Sunday drives with her husband and enjoyed going to bingo. Mabel was also a member of the 45 card game in Eskasoni. Her house was like a second home, open to anybody in need, especially her grandchildren. She was the life of the family gatherings. Mabel was an excellent cook; people would line up just to get a taste of her cooking.
She was a very opinionated woman who always said what was on her mind. She always did her best to help anyone. She was loved and respected amongst the communities of Membertou and Eskasoni especially for her work as a CCA in her younger years. She is loved by all who knew her and she will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her life partner and husband, Michel Deslauriers; children, Glenda Junta, Eskasoni, Perry (Mary Lou), Eskasoni, Andrea (Calvin), Membertou, Tabitha Googoo (Charles), Eskasoni, Robin Dennis (Roy), Eskasoni, Becky (Jim), Ontario, Paul (Zoe), Potlotek, Joshua, Eskasoni, Levi (Felicia), Eskasoni, John (Jill), Eskasoni, Nikkita (Quentin), Eskasoni, Michael, Toronto; godchildren, Linda Googoo, Courtney Dennis, Krystal Francis and Mary Jane Dennis. She is also survived by her 55 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; siblings, Paula, Joyce, Wendy, Peggy and Lyndon; sisters-in-law, Catherine Dennis and Lillian Marshall and by her only surviving uncle, Fred Battiste.
She was predeceased by son, Duncan; brothers, Muldoon, Clayton, Anthanasius, Ekkian (Steve), Joe Noel, Perry in infancy; sisters, Lena, Denise; grandchild, Rayne and nephew, Dale.
Visitation for Mrs. Dennis will take place after 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 16 at
Gabriel Center, Eskasoni.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 at Holy Family Church with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating.
