It is with saddened hearts that we announce the death of a loving person, Daniel Joseph Paul ‘Dan J.’ of Waycobah First Nation, on July 9, 2017. Born in St. Rita’s Hospital in Sydney on December 20, 1951, he was the adopted son of the late Peter and Margaret Bernard. His biological parents were the late Barbara Paul and Levi Googoo.
Dan was employed with the Waycobah School as a Maintenance Supervisor from 1978 until his retirement in 2009. He enjoyed taking his grandson Sean to his hockey games, practices and tournaments. He was an Edmonton Oilers fan. Poppa loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his favourite hobbies was playing crib with his buddy Uncle Rod, his little buddy ‘Muffin’ who was a diehard Oilers fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Juanita (Toney) and their two sons, Daniel (Audrey), Eskasoni and Trevor (Tammy), Waycobah; their two daughters, Krystal, Raven (Daniel), both of Waycobah; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters, Annie Johnson (Leo), Eskasoni and Michelle Doucette, Potlotek; brothers, Galli Andrew Paul (Darlene), Potlotek, John Bourassa (Faye), Ottawa and Arthur Edward Campbell (Donna), Ottawa. He is also survived by special friend, Rod Phillips, Waycobah; as well as four godchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Justin Googoo, Logan Paul and Raven Paul.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Roland Genge and the staff of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Visitation for Dan will start on Tuesday, July 18 after 4 p.m. in the family residence, 211 Reservation Rd., Waycobah First Nation. Funeral Mass will be 12 p.m. Thursday from Saint Kateri Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah with Father Danny MacLennan officiating. Burial at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
