Passed peacefully away at Pleasantville Towers on Monday, July 17, 2017, surrounded by his family who he loved so dearly, at age 87. Born in Grand Bank on July 11, 1930, he graduated from S.A. High School in 1947, and attended Memorial College in 1950. After being a school teacher from 1947-1953, he worked with Provincial Civil Service for 30 years, his last position as Director of Finance. A man of exceptional faith, he loved his church and the Salvation Army Band. A former Sunday school teacher, long time member of the Orangemen's Association, past Master of Leeming Lodge and Royal Black Preceptory. An avid reader, he also enjoyed walking, and trouting. Left to celebrate his life with many wonderful memories are; his loving, caring wife, and sweetheart, Ruby (Durdle); devoted children Jim (Judi), Ross (Sandy), Karen (Norm O'Driscoll); his loving grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Colin (Andrea), Justin (Linda), Gary (Celine), Krista, Ross, and Nicole (Zach); precious great-grandchildren: Ava, Hayden, Sophie, Ruby, and Mateo; step-grandchildren: Reigan, Grayson, and Wyatt; sisters/brothers-in-law: Barbara Moore, Mary Moore, Kay Woolridge (Tom), Peggy Keats (Cyril), and Harry Durdle; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by his parents James and Jane (Crowley): mother and father-in-law Marion and Bob Durdle; brothers: Lt. Col. Howard Moore, and Col. Clyde Moore; sisters and brother-in-law: Myrtle and Ned Earle, Fannie and Perce Butler, and Nellie Durdle. Dad's last years were spent battling dementia. A special thank you to all the staff of 3-NW and former Hoyles Home, for their exceptional kindness, care, and respect they showed dad since his arrival at the home in 2013. We'll always remember you. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl, on Wednesday, July 19th, from 7:00pm-9:00pm; and on Thursday, July 20th, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Memorial service will be from Barrett's Chapel on Friday, July 21st, at 2:00pm. No flowers by request. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or S.A. St. John's Citadel Band.
