Allan David MacDonald

Passed on: July 19th, 2017

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Allan David MacDonald, age 73, of North Sydney, who died on Tuesday, July 19 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital An Cala Unit after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Dad was born and raised in Scotch Lake, always his home, despite working as a welder for several years across Canada. Dad worked in Newfoundland, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and finally in Cape Breton at the Heavy Water Plant. He loved his job and the people he worked with.
Dad loved coaching, and for many years coached t-ball and baseball in the County Little League. He was well known for organizing and preparing many spaghetti and meatball suppers to support teams travelling to tournaments and for upgrades to ballfields. He loved to cook and barbecue and took great pride in his culinary skills, which like his welding ability, was top notch. He was an avid wood worker who enjoyed building projects around the home. He was a true die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan, always wearing the red, white and blue in good times and bad, and loved to reminisce about their many Stanley Cups.
Dad is survived by his children, Tracy Stewardson (Glenn), Hammonds Plains, Sheri Ryan (Shane), North Sydney, Keri MacDonald (Horacio Patrocinio), Montreal, Mark (Tammy Leiko Root), Montreal, and Mark's mother, Edmoroda. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Grace, Paige, Quinn, Isabel, Ben, Nolan and his little buddy Sam. He is also survived by his siblings, Marie, Delia MacIntyre, Anne Conway (Sandy), Joe (Anna), Michael (Anne), Vincent (Debbie), Barry (Cheryl) and Cathy Ivey (Art), and several nieces and nephews.
Dad was pre-deceased by his wife, Sandra (Iannetti) MacDonald; his parents, John and Beatrice (Bagg) MacDonald; his in-laws, Joe and Nina (MacLean) Iannetti, and his brothers-in-law, Richard and Ralph Iannetti and Michael MacIntyre.
The family would like to thank the staff of the An Cala unit, Palliative Care especially team staff Dr. D'intino, Dr. Aboud, Cathy MacMillan and Michelle Finney. Thanks also to the Cancer Centre staff, especially Dr. Khodidad and Eleanor Cooke. The staff at Miners Memorial Manor, his home away from home for the past year, provided him with terrific care and support. Finally special thanks to Dr. Michel McKeough and Louise McKeough for their many years of support and care.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22 at St Joseph's Church, Bras d'Or with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. Reception to follow at St Josephs Parish Hall, Bras d'Or. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, NS
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines.
