It’s with love and respect that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Bazil Thomas Pero, 81, on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born in Florence, Cape Breton on January 27, 1936. He was the son of the late John and Rebeccah (Bonnar) Pero. He moved to Yarmouth in his early twenties and settled there and raised his family. He was a Corporal for the Yarmouth Town Police force for ten years, he then worked at the Yarmouth Jail for ten years. He was then employed for sixteen years as Sheriff for the Department of Justice, until his retirement. Upon retiring he was self-employed as Bailiff for fifteen years, until just recently.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Murphy); mother-in-law, Marjorie Deming, Yarmouth; his daughter, Jodi (Glenn) d’Entremont, Brooklyn, daughter, Kelly (Barry) Hurlburt, Yarmouth. He will be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Bailey, Gabrielle, Brock and Hunter. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy (Frances), Sydney Mines; sisters, Elva King, Watertown, Mass. and Rebeccah (Bunnie) (Hector) Dipersio, Sydney Mines.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, William (Dick), Alex, Ray, Lorne and Jack Pero, and sisters, Mae Ivey, Millie Coady and Eileen Moore.
He truly was a man who liked everyone he met. He respected everyone and was well respected, in return. He loved life and loved to laugh. He adored his family and was each one’s biggest supporter. He never turned down an opportunity to help someone out, if needed. He was a huge animal lover and will be missed by his loyal companion, his dog, Ben. He was very greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his family.
We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Webster and the staff of 4 South of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care, in his final days.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 28 from Sweenys Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Father Albeni d’Entremont officiating. In respect of his wishes, there will be no viewing.
