Doreen Alexa Ross (Barry)

ROSS (Barry), Doreen Alexa – Age 79, of Truro. On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, a great lady passed away suddenly, surrounded by her loving family, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Alexa (McManus) Barry. Doreen was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and a proud graduate of Mount St. Bernard College in Antigonish. She worked at various jobs over the years with her last being with C.D. Armstrong Insurance. Doreen loved making her home welcoming to others and many were spoiled by her generous hospitality and her love of entertaining with great creativity. She enjoyed music and genealogy and was proud of completing her family tree and her Irish ancestry of great faith. She also liked to quilt, knit and sew and many of her family and friends will forever cherish the treasures that she made for them. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother and her grandchildren will forever be blessed with her great love for them. Doreen is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Brian Edward Ross; children, Brian “B.J.” (Cathie Coll), Halifax; Anne (Robert Gaetz), Head of Chezzetcook; Christopher (Fiancée, Mary Alice Butts), Bedford; Barry (Denine Kumar), Halifax; grandchildren, Heather-Alexa, Patrick, Olivia Doreen, Tristen, Brian, Dawson; siblings, Carmel O’Doherty, Whitby, Ontario; Marie Power, Dartmouth; Pat (Margaret) Barry, St. Lambert, Quebec; Cyril (Madeleine) Barry, Calgary, Alberta; Anne (Jack) MacDonald, New Glasgow; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Barry in infancy and daughter-in-law, Lynn (Dolmont). Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Doreen’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father James O’Connor officiating. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment at a later date in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Doreen’s memory to Kane’s Kitchen, Truro are welcomed.
