Alexander John (Sandy) MacRae, 22 MacDermid Street, Baddeck, NS passed away peacefully on July 27, 2017 at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Sandy was born on July 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Hector and Sadie (MacLeod) MacRae.
He is survived by his wife Murdena (Smith), son, Alexander (Frances), daughter Kathleen (Danny) MacKay, step-daughters, Sylvia (Kyle) Jardine and Ann Marie (Junior) Dixon. Grand children Shannon and Kyle MacKay and step-grand children, Kathy, Kelsey and Jesslyn Dixon and Lindsey and Lily Jardine. Brothers, Angus (Ruthie), David (Anne) and Philip.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son Kevin.
Sandy worked as an automotive mechanic at MacAulays Ford in Baddeck for over 35 years. He was an avid hockey fan who followed the Cape Breton Oilers and then the Screaming Eagles. He spent many days at the rink in Baddeck watching his sons play hockey and coaching.
Sandy was known to all that knew him for his wit and humour and will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place. The body is resting at Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck on Monday, July 31st from 4 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. A reception will be held at Knox Church Hall following the funeral Service. Burial will be held at a later date.
Donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Services will be under the direction of the MacAskill Funeral Home.
